After a half a year since my transition from engineering consulting to international development I've begun to believe that submitting applications to firms where you have no preexisting relationship is futile. Thankfully I have made progress in the firms where I know someone, or know someone who knows someone in the target company...but I'm now wholly skeptical of the value of responding to postings where you have no inside track.
